Our generation invented the quarter-life crisis, a point when people in their twenties wonder about their purpose, dream big and take chances. It's not exactly a bad thing. I, too, am guilty of leaving a well-planned week for a life of adventure. I wanted to pursue my dreams knowing that life is too short to settle down. The opportunity to grow your skills, understand more and learn about the world is a temptation difficult to resist. I quote the late Steve Jobs in saying never settle. Stay hungry.
Research tells us that we are also prone to believing that because of the vast talents we know we possess, we can conquer the world by claiming the wins our uniqueness was able to bag.
Although there is truth in becoming anything our imagination can perceive, no great man in history was able to attain his prime all by himself. We all need a companion, a team, an investor, an interviewer, the unsung hero. We must take our great idea and be not afraid to allow others to see it. We must recognise that dreamers flourish in the company of dreamers and believers, people who will guide us in being wise, moulding and editing until we reach "perfection". Like the famous saying, no man is an island. Even the famous artist, Robert Alejandro would agree, it only takes one believer to take chances with you not to help you survive but to thrive. The big break. Although not everything will fall as planned after that, the challenges will be easier to accept for one was able to reach the point of unwavering stride.
It only takes one believer to take chances with you not to help you survive but to thrive.
Here is another poem that I wrote in Filipino, to honour the celebration of our language. This piece actually talks about the same topic but also encourages everyone to push not only to reach our goals but more of the lessons we'll learn on the journey towards it. It is also a reminder that we're always blessed, and that we were given this life for a purpose.
Stay inspired and have a happy weekend!
Iniukit at Pinagpala
Sa iglap ng aking agamagam,
Sinuong ko ang palungho
Upang maarok ang katotohanan.
Subalit gaano katarik tumpang babagtasin
