Siem Reap, Cambodia

Last September 18 to 21, my friends and I went to Siem Reap, Cambodia. A much awaited trip for all of us; one could say that we needed the break from the monotony of our daily activities, and usual get-togethers. Growing up in the metro, I felt joyful after seeing and walking through their forests and temples. Everything was very magical for me. I can still remember how the butterflies flew around us as we were walking through Angkor Thom (Great City), which connects the Kingdom of Cambodia to the other states.

What struck me the most was the serious efforts being carried by their government and concerned institutions to restore their heritage sites. With such beautifully carved pillars and walls, incredible structures and rich history, how could you not do it, right? The trip became more educational because of our friendly tour guide, Vicheth Chan.

He even booked us in a restaurant that showcases cultural dances. Of course, I didn't miss going to the museum after having seen Angkor (Capital City). Though the trip didn't make it till the equinox, when the sun would seemingly touch the highest point of Angkor Wat (Temple City), the sunset was still amazing.
Travel as much as you can.
We stayed in Viroth, a modern boutique hotel that is perfect for friends and lovers alike. The staff was very accommodating. They serve delicious breakfast for every day of your stay, and provide transportation for every room booked. They even bothered packing breakfast when we decided to go to Ta Prohm, the temple where Tomb Raider and Transformers were shot, one early morning.

The food in Cambodia is something to try. I think the best meal that we had was the one from Sugar Palm, but the food in Viroth restaurant was also worth the try. One should also taste their street food, especially the banana pancake.

Travellers can live on budget, as everything is affordable. Transactions are usually in dollars, but you can gracefully survive with $50 a day. They say you should travel as much as you can, and with such beautiful heritage, Cambodia should definitely be on one's list.

Stay inspired and have a great weekend.
